The Brilliant…s?

October 19, 2009 1 comment

One more final examination today, and the first ever semester in this college life of mine will be finished. As for whether I pass this or not, that remains to be seen.

Anyway, it was fun. It was exciting. It was a fast-paced action film. It was a slow drama. It was, in short, a bit of everything.

The End of Chapter I – Book I

I’ve never experienced such a mixture of people: the funny, the gorgeous, the lovely, the emo, the sunshine, the intelligent, the wise, the ‘wais’, the low-profile, the star, the ‘pechay’, the DOTA boys, the real, the good-mannered, the brilliant(no s). Having people with different personalities kept the class’s story exciting and not boring.

But sadly – and this I have to admit – I noticed that not everyone carried with them the required desire, or motivation, to win this course. It could be that the ‘college’ feeling have not sunk yet into their minds, or there could be other reasons. I hope there were, or I hope there was. Even a single valid reason will convince me that they want – and need – to finish this course using their own minds as their weapons.

Anyways, who am I to judge? I do accept these people for who they are, because they’re also a part of the cast of the film called my life. I do assume I’m a part of theirs, too.

The Biggest Problem

If there was one major problem I met, it was that there exists a computer at home, but I could not use it when I needed to. I couldn’t use it well.

Imagine this:

I’m studying C++. There are things I want to learn aside from what we’re taught (because we were taught very little, and it’s up to us, students, if we want to expand the knowledge). Let’s say I want to learn about ‘pointers’ – which, I heard, is the best feature of C++. I cannot do that. Why? What can I learn if I have less than an hour to use a computer? If I remember correctly, this is college. We’re not learning 1 + 1 anymore.

The Hope for Chapter II – Book I (Two If Statements)

If there’s one thing I’d wish to have next semester, it would be a computer I can use freely, or the freedom to use a computer when I need to.

If there’s one person I’d like to see next semester, it would be…

These past few days were not very much the kind of days I wanted to experience. I think I can get your nod when I say this last week was amongst the worst if not the worst calamity in the Philippines. I haven’t seen anything like that happen in this country in my nineteen years of existence. Baha dito, baha doon. For a second I felt like this was the beginning of the end of our earth.

Sayang… Everything, every material thing people owned drowned with their very homes. And people worked hard to have these material possessions. I can only imagine myself in their shoes. I don’t even know how these people are coping with the situation. Ah, but I do, on second thought.

As much as I’ve heard, seen, read about people suffering from the effects of Ondoy, there are also stories of great heroism, and unity.

People risk their lives in order that others may live. And how just it is to live – with reason – if someone saved my life! My hero must’ve seen my worth. If he dies – which even in a sample situation I imagine well – then the more I should have a reason to live. Someone else died for me, and if I don’t live my life (not exist blog reader, live, not exist) I will only insult the memory of the one who saved – and died for – me.

People help each other. I was amazed at the number of volunteers the different foundations were able to have. Aside from these volunteers, help from  many private companies – in cash or in goods – was and still is (if I’m not mistaken) pouring like heavy rain.

The literal uber heavy rain that hit the country gets matched by the heavy rain of good deeds. I have never been more proud as a Filipino.

PS. As you may have noticed, I’m back blogging at WordPress.com. What about the blog at paulSarcia.com? Well, I can just say that some disaster also occured and led to a major problem which caused a good number of blog posts to be deleted, and worse, there’s no way I can bring them back. sayang naman…
